As a planned and supported succession process, Victims of Crime NT (VoCNT) is seeking an experienced values-driven, governance professional based in the Northern Territory to join our Board as the Chair-elect come our Annual General Meeting in October 2026.

Our departing Chairperson has demonstrated unwavering commitment through many years of dedicated service across diverse roles in our organisation. Her leadership, wisdom, and integrity have strengthened our organisation immeasurably. We are profoundly grateful for her influence, guidance, and lasting impact, and consider ourselves truly fortunate to have benefited from her stewardship over the years.

Building on this strong foundation, the Board is focused on ensuring continuity of leadership and values into the future. Her legacy provides both a benchmark and an opportunity to thoughtfully prepare for the next phase of governance, supporting a smooth transition that continues to serve our organisation and community well.

About Victims of Crime NT

VoCNT exists to support, promote and uphold the rights, interests and needs of victims of crime across the Northern Territory. Our Vision is to reduce the adverse impacts of crime by building resilient individuals and communities that experience a strong sense of safety, security and connectedness.

We are a registered not-for-profit charity with the ACNC and our programs and activities are funded through Northern Territory Government grants. As well as providing direct support, we work collaboratively with government, justice agencies, and other community agencies to promote the rights, interests and needs of victims.

VoCNT is accredited as a Sanctuary Provider and is deeply committed to Trauma Informed Practice, ensuring our governance, culture and services promote safety, healing, and resilience for people impacted by crime and our community more broadly.

We are committed to creating environments of relational, emotional, social and physical safety. Our governance approach reflects these principles centred on transparency, shared decision‑making, and an understanding of the impacts of trauma on individuals, systems and communities.

The Opportunity and Responsibilities

After becoming a member of the Association, the successful candidate will be appointed to the Board with full voting rights in an acting position until the AGM on October 15th 2026 when incumbent will be elected as the Chair.

Duties include:

  • Serving as a Board Member at monthly meetings
  • Work closely with the sitting Board Chair and CEO meeting with them both monthly.
  • Participate in a mentoring and handover process to ensure continuity and strong governance
  • Contribute strategically to Board discussions and decision-making
  • Support strong governance, ethical leadership, and regulatory compliance
  • Uphold contemporary governance standards aligned with AICD principles and practices
  • Foster a culture that reflects trauma informed, person-centred values
  • Work collaboratively with all Board members
  • Prepare to lead the Board by facilitating effective meetings and supporting Board performance.

This succession role reflects the Board’s commitment to thoughtful leadership transition and best-practice governance.

Skills & Experience

We are seeking candidates who bring:

  • Demonstrated Board governance experience, ideally at Chair or Deputy Chair level
  • Strong understanding of AICD-aligned governance frameworks (AICD training or membership highly regarded)
  • Strategic leadership capability, sound judgement, and strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience in not-for-profit, community, justice, legal, or social services sectors (highly desirable)
  • A genuine commitment to trauma informed practice and the mission of Victims of Crime NT
  • Holds a Social Justice values base with some understanding of the social determinants to crime.

Applicants must reside in the Northern Territory.

Time Commitment

  • Attend 10–12 2-hour meetings per year (in-person/or online)
  • Board Chair and the CEO to meet monthly
  • Negotiated time for mentoring, preparation, and strategic engagement during the transition period as required.
